Part One
1. THE NATURE OF OUR WARFARE AND ITS
REALITY
The Bible paints a very vivid picture for us from Genesis to
Revelation of a warfare that is occurring right now among
spiritual elements of the cosmos. God, Yahweh who is the
Creator, is the God of light and good. All good comes from
Him.
And long before humanity existed, there was among God’s
creation an element of his created beings known as angels
(literally, His messengers) who rebelled against God in
their pride and put their allegiance behind God’s greatest
angelic being, a cherub known as Hallel, who would after his
fall be known as Satan or the Devil.
Mankind is in this warfare, and you see it being waged
around and inside of man from Genesis to Revelation. Man or
the race of Adam is also a spiritual race as well as a
physical one. 1 Thessalonians speaks of us being body,
soul, and spirit. The spirit is the breath of life that God
breathed into Adam to make him a living soul… an immortal
being having a temporary physical existence here on earth
made into the image or reflection of God to stand for and
with God.
Man was to be God’s companion and friend, and God gave man
dominion over this Earth. And on this Earth there was a
prisoner from before named Satan, who is the crooked serpent
or the Great Red Dragon. He tempted the woman as this
warfare began with our race, and she and her husband fell to
sin, and the war was on.
Jesus Christ has won the
decisive victory of this war at the cross winning a
triumph over Satan and sin and over all of his demonic
powers, but the war will continue for a while yet while God
redeems from sin those who are willing to be redeemed, and
brings judgment on the rest.
If you like it or not; and if
you want to or not, you are already a part of this war.
You can be on God’s side (the winning side), or on Satan’s
side (the losing side that will join the Devil in his fate
in the Lake of Fire), or even as a Christian you can become
still a victim by not learning or being willing to fight the
fight of faith.
Some would say, we don’t need a study on spiritual
warfare. Some are afraid of the very idea of spiritual
warfare not understanding that Satan’s forces are set to
destroy us already. I admit we don’t need what a lot
of people call spiritual warfare, but things are getting
darker all of the time. We are seeing things in these
last days that we have never seen before and having to
face attacks that we have never had to face before. We
are called to make a stand against the darkness for
Jesus Christ and be a light in this dark world and
resist the darkness.
It is not a fight with people or flesh or wits, but it is a
spiritual fight and it takes the spiritual weapons that God
has given us to overcome. Here are some quick verses on
this warfare before we actually start digging into it:
2 Timothy 2:3-4 (KJV)3 Thou therefore endure hardness, as a
good soldier of Jesus Christ. 4 No man that warreth
entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he
may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.
2 Corinthians 10:3-5 (KJV)3 For though we walk in the flesh,
we do not war after the flesh: 4 (For the weapons of our
warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the
pulling down of strong holds;) 5 Casting down
imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself
against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity
every thought to the obedience of Christ;
1 Timothy 6:12 (KJV) Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold
on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast
professed a good profession before many witnesses.
1 Peter 5:8-9 (KJV)8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your
adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about,
seeking whom he may devour: 9 Whom resist stedfast in the
faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in
your brethren that are in the world.
James 4:7 (KJV) Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist
the devil, and he will flee from you.
