BEWARE THE VENOM OF THE PHARISEES

 PART TWO

Matthew 5:5 " Blessed [are] the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. "

3rd Blessing - those who will put God’s will and other’s needs ahead of their own are the ones who will be rewarded the earth... they are joint heirs with Jesus Christ.

If you are willing to be a servant now... someday you will inherit the Earth.  If you want the will of the Father more than your own, and want to be a help to someone else in Jesus’ name then this is describing you.  God will bless you as you bless others and please the Lord.

It does not say, “blessed are the self-willed who want their own way”.  It says blessed are the meek, for they are going to be the ones who inherit it all!

Meek is from the Greek word praeis, which is to be strong, and yet tender and humble.  It is to seek God’s will before your own.  It is to care more for others than your own well-being.  It is to be strong in your faith and discipline and to be self-controlled.  It is to not be led by your own selfishness, but to put God and others first.

The one who is self-controlled and loves the Lord more than themselves and is there for others will be blessed and blessed and blessed, and will inherit the entire Earth someday.  THIS IS THE OPPOSITE OF GREEDY AND SELF-WILLED.

1 Peter 3:4 (KJV) But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.

Numbers 12:3 (KJV) “ (Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.) “

1 Corinthians 9:27 (KJV) But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

Romans 12:3 (KJV) For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.

Romans 12:2 (KJV) And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

The greedy will lose it all, but the meek shall get it all.  The servant is the greater, and the servant to all is the greatest of all.  The word ministry means service by the way, and Jesus Christ (the King of Kings) became the greatest servant and is our example.

If we are operating in love, then we will be meek and not selfish.

Matthew 23:15 " Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves. "

3rd Woe - you will compass sea and land to make one proselyte... and when you do corrupt his understanding and make him double the child of Hell than yourselves.

In other words, our ways are the only right ways and don’t listen to any preacher or church that tells you otherwise… as they fill them with their traditions instead of the truth and corrupt them.

When you make a proselyte to your traditions, you literally make them the bitter and hateful children of Hell.  They are worse off than to just being a heathen.

There is a principle here that you can see practically in all cults and false religions.  They are usually motivated by a false religious spirit to get out there and get their message out than those who are actually commissioned by Jesus to go into all the world and spread the gospel.  In fact, it is the competition with the TRUE GOSPEL that many times pushes those who have “another gospel”.

I will get some flak here, but when you look at this next group's teachings, it is a totally false religion.  The Book of Mormon is named another testament of Jesus Christ, but it should really be called “ANOTHER GOSPEL OF CHRIST” for it is another gospel and preaches another Jesus who was not the Eternal Word of God who became flesh without sin and took the sins of the world upon Himself and died in our place and rose again.  But their Jesus is one that attained godhood at his resurrection and that we can, too.    IT IS A LIE!

That is one that many times that the church can readily see.  But there are sometimes problems much closer to home within the true church that teaches the true gospel.  Sometimes there are Pharisees within the ranks of the church.

The problem is that scattered within the true church however, are those who are closer akin to Pharisees than Believers.  And they are caught up in traditions that they think constitute holiness, and miss the truth that holiness comes from God and that He is the only source.  It will change your lifestyle.   But it isn’t the lifestyle that is holiness but rather the lifestyle is a result of God’s presence in us.

They are modern-day Pharisees and they stand in the way of the simple faith in the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  They add rules legalistic bondage just as the Judaizers did at Galatia and try to make people think that they are justified and saved through their works.

They will talk about Jesus and use His name, and then totally misrepresent His Word adding to it pronouncedly.  They are very judgmental and quick to point fingers to those who don’t appear like they think that they should or do as they think.  And their oral traditions are greater than the Word in their minds and they make disciples of their own legalistic tradition instead of winning people to Jesus by faith.

Colossians 2:6-8 (KJV)6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:   7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.   8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

1 Peter 1:18 (KJV) Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;

Matthew 5:6 " Blessed [are] they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. "

4th Blessing - who is blessed?  Those who are hungry for God and His righteousness more than the world.  If you hunger (active) and thirst after righteousness... then God is going to fill you!

Psalms 34:8 (KJV) O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.

1 Peter 2:2-3 (KJV)2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:   3 If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.

John 7:37-38 (KJV)37  In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.   38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

Psalms 42:1-2 (KJV)1 As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.   2 My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?

Are you hungrier for God than you are your
 way and the world?
Then God will fill you up

THIS IS THE FOUNDATION FOR REVIVAL!  WITHOUT THIS, YOU WILL NEVER HAVE A TRUE MOVE OF GOD!  YOU MIGHT HAVE A TRICKLE OF THE SPIRIT, BUT NEVER THE RIVER!

1 John 2:15 (KJV) Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

Matthew 6:33 (KJV) But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

2 Chronicles 7:14 (KJV) If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

If you get a hunger for God, then God is going to satisfy that hunger.  He is going to satisfy you!  He is going to fill you up with His presence and bring His abundant life into you and you will be blessed!

Matthew 23:16 " Woe unto you, [ye] blind guides, which say, Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor! "

4th Woe - blind guides... fools and blind...  they were concerned about the gold of the temple, but not the holiness of the temple itself.  Their eyes were on carnal things and not upon the spiritual

The Pharisees were fixated on things and money, rather on the God who made them.

You see that in the Greed Gospel that is so prevalent today on television and so many churches.  But it is also true even on the other end of the spectrum where people are greedy and hold to their money and feel like it is more important than God and His Kingdom.

If you tell them that the church has a chance to do something to serve the community and make a difference for Jesus Christ, their first question will be, “how much will it cost?”  That’s what the Pharisees did and though this has to do with oaths, it is what they considered the important thing.

Anytime that we miss the love of God and the truth of God’s Word, then we will get off on “things”.  We will get off on traditions and money and things and externals instead of the internal spiritual realities of being a Christian believer.

This goes back to rituals and devotions being more important than the real devotion, love, and commitment to God!  We are to give and support the ministry out of love, but friend what good does it do us to do our devotions if we lack real love and commitment to God at the same time?

What good does it do us to get the externals if we don’t have the reality of God in our lives as well?  If we lack love, then what good does our vain religion do us?

Also, we are told by Jesus to not to swear oaths as children of God anyway.

Matthew 5:33-37 (KJV) " 33 Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths:   34 But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne:   35 Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King.   36 Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black.   37 But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil. "
