7 Things Called Abominations in Proverbs 6

I. THE WORD ABOMINATION IS USED HERE... HERE ARE COMMON OCCURRENCES IN AMERICA AND GOD CALLS THEM ABOMINATIONS TO HIM.

1. America was founded primarily by people who came from Europe desiring the freedom to worship God without persecution or state interference. Much of the foundation of the English colonies had a Christian base to it despite what Hollywood or Disney would have you to believe.

• Example: Pocahontas was actually a born again Christian and died in London before sailing back to America. She didn’t want to come back and was a court darling of Queen Elizabeth.

People will take examples like Thomas Jefferson and Ben Franklin who were either agnostic or Deistic, but the reality is that the vast majority were Christian. In fact, the numbers are very clear that most who came to this country came out of a desire to worship God freely... and that is our heritage although New Age "liberals" are rewriting the history books the last 10 years. You would think the examples of the Communists and Nazis who tried to manipulate history to make them look better would still be in our minds, but many have forgotten these sad examples and still try to ignore the blazing truth that America was formed primarily out of a desire to worship the Christian God in liberty.

2. But there is a perversion of values... a hatred for things holy and righteous... and if you follow God and His word you are hated especially... the days of ease are over... spiritual and soon political oppression is upon us and America is turning her back upon the God who has provided all of her wealth and security.

3. Historically when a nation turned their back so radically on God who they once trusted... they through their abominations would bring the wrath of God to bear... judgment is coming to America... I believe to a point she is suffering judgment already... look at the natural disasters that have occurred in the last 15 years... but there is a traumatic day of reckoning that is coming for this nation, or any nation that rejects the true and living God.

4. These are things that we do not need to stand in judgment in others over... yea, God will in fact judge these abominations... but we must hate these sins or iniquities (spiritual sins) when they occur in us! When there are seeds of these behaviors in us... we must hate them and put them to death through the power of the Holy Spirit before they grow.

IF WE COULD LEARN TO SEE INIQUITIES AS GOD DOES... THEN WE WOULD HATE THE SIN BEFORE IT HAD A CHANCE TO TAKE ROOT IN US!


• A lot of times we think... oh, that’s good for that one... or, man it’s too bad that this one isn’t here... and it probably is... but you are!
• The thing is that we all have some things that are weaknesses in our lives... things that irritate us when we see them in others especially.
• We have got to learn that we will have a hard enough time taking care of ourselves.

5. We must not just hate these things in others... but we must hate them in ourselves... and recognize when their attitudes rise up in us. Our society is trying to program us... but it’s the Word we will be judged by. We need to get the beams out of our eyes before we start taking splinters out of our brother and sister's eyes!

Philippians 2:12-13 " 12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. 13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of [his] good pleasure. "

II. LET’S LOOK AT AMERICA IN THE LIGHT OF THESE SCRIPTURES.

• A proud look or haughty eyes...

1. pride begins these iniquities... because pride is the root of a lot of other sins. Without pride, people will seek the help of God... with pride people feel justified and seek the destruction of others.

2. America used to be proud in the sense of doing their job well and a strong work ethic... now it’s just a kind of arrogance that we are somehow superior because that we are Americans. God allowed us this country and as we turn our back on Him He can take it away.

3. The Attorney General under Bill Clinton's administration (not the current one) had labeled anyone who attends church regularly or believes that the Bible is actually God’s Word (a fundamentalist), or gives to Christian Works, or believes that Jesus Christ is coming back again is dangerous and part of a cult. Under that definition, George Washington was a member of a cult, so we are in good company. Good has become evil in the eyes of the world. This was well documented from an interview with Larry King.

4. Our pride has gone beyond feeling superior (we have been given a feeling of invulnerability over the conflicts this nation has had since the First Gulf War) over other countries... and one group internally over another group because of money or race or education, but now it has turned arrogant toward God. Pride comes before a fall.

• We have pop stars in wrestling and music and movies that make a profit over glamorizing evil.
• Something’s wrong when it becomes cool to be evil.

5. Instead humble yourselves...

Philippians 2:3-5 " 3 [Let] nothing [be done] through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. 4 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. 5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: "

James 4:6 " But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. "

• A lying tongue.

1. God hates lying... God is truth... Satan is the father of lies... and it is the nature of the enemy to lie. It is the nature of the world to lie.

2. I’ve seen carnal Christians tell their kids what they called a "little white lie". The Bible declares that it is the little foxes that spoil the vine. It isn’t the big things... it’s the little ones we don’t think anything of that winds up robbing us of God’s goodness.

Revelation 21:8 " But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. "

John 14:6 " Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. "

Ephesians 6:14 : Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; "

3. The world is looking for reality... something and someone who is not a con. I put it to you that when you have the reality of God in your life... you have the truth and you don’t need to lie!

• Hands that shed innocent blood.

1. There are quite literally millions and millions of unborn babies crying out from the ground... their innocent blood cries out to God for vengeance. We live in a society where life is so cheap that the government has made it convenient to have an abortion.

2. In some states, it is becoming acceptable to put our elderly to a quick and painless death... what is happening is this... where people have no purpose to their lives... then life gets cheap and meaningless... so whatever is convenient is what is done. God forgive us!

Galatians 5:22-23 " 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. "

3. The fruit isn’t something that we have hanging over us... it is the goodness and joy of God that having the Holy Spirit in our lives brings naturally!

• A heart that devises evil imaginations.

1. Wicked imaginations... that seems to be the basis of our society and our entertainment today. It seems that we must be entertained constantly to be numbed to the emptiness of purpose in our lives.

2. Not only that... entertainment of former generations don’t satisfy... this generation needs stronger entertainment... more sexually explicate, more bloody, more violent... more satanic.

Genesis 6:5-7 " 5 And GOD saw that the wickedness of man [was] great in the earth, and [that] every imagination of the thoughts of his heart [was] only evil continually.
6 And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. 7 And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. "

3. We are being programmed to sin. We are being programmed by music, television, movies, the news media to believe that morality is stupid and something is wrong with you if you are. We are trained to think that death is cool (the gothic generation... school and youth violence), getting high and drunk is where real life is, and Christianity is for your grandparents only.

2 Corinthians 6:17-18 " 17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean [thing]; and I will receive you, 18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty. "

4. I’ll tell you this... if you are sold out to Jesus... your want to’s become different... your life will be worth living!

• Feet that run rapidly to do evil.

1. Not only is evil prevalent in our society... but it has been supercharged if you will... it is as though people are trying desperately to fill a gap in their own lives with as much sin as possible. Our advances in technology has done nothing to fix the sin problem in people.

2. Corruption in politics and most walks of life has become commonplace and mostly accepted. When presidents lie to Congress and get away with it, and who has taught a generation that it is okay to lie and perjure and live immorally and break your commitments, then we have a serious sin problem that is corrupting the very souls of right and wrong. When a President (not the current one) can have a nickname that begins with "slick" and still be popular enough be elected even after his true nature is shown, then we are in trouble. Forgive us, Lord!

Galatians 6:7-10 " 7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. 8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. 9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. 10 As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all [men], especially unto them who are of the household of faith. "

• A false witness that speaks lies.

1. We have already spoken of lying... but now it is the kind of lies that hurts the innocent.

2. It is the spirit of the accuser to bring false witness... to attack the innocent with accusations. It is a breaking of the commandment... bearing false witness... it is casting the blame upon those that have no blame. It is the destroying of the name of the innocent with gossip.

3. God has called us to be intercessors... people of love... people of power... people who will stand in the gap for one another... people who will go out of their comfort zone to help one another... not criticize and gossip and lie on one another.

Romans 15:1-3 " 1 We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves. 2 Let every one of us please [his] neighbour for [his] good to edification. 3 For even Christ pleased not himself; but, as it is written, The reproaches of them that reproached thee fell on me. "

• The 7th is spreading discord among the brethren.

1. You have to wonder if this one is considered even a worse abomination that the others... since the poetic way that the 7th is added to the six things. Anyway, it is on the same level with murder of the innocent and walking in evil continually.

2. I believe that one of the reasons we don’t win more to Jesus Christ in the church is that many in the church are just as worldly in their attitudes as the lost are. Many are judgmental and critical of others and arrogant and they murder with their tongues.

Proverbs 18:21 " Death and life [are] in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. "

3. Spreading discord among the brethren... this is to the people of God... those who should know better but become worldly anyway sometimes. We have an opportunity to speak life to this generation... but we can’t while we are murmuring and complaining and gossiping.

Psalm 133:1-3 " 1 Behold, how good and how pleasant [it is] for brethren to dwell together in unity! 2 [It is] like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, [even] Aaron's beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments; 3 As the dew of Hermon, [and as the dew] that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for there the LORD commanded the blessing, [even] life for evermore. "

Philippians 2:14-15 " 14 Do all things without murmurings and disputings: 15 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world; "

III. AMERICA CAN STILL HAVE A REVIVAL... IT MIGHT BE AMONG A REMNANT THAT GOD WILL CALL HIS OWN... BUT WE CAN STILL MAKE AN IMPACT... WE ARE NOT TO JUST GIVE INTO THE EVIL AND LET IT CORRUPT US... WE ARE TO BE LIGHTS!

1. We have an opportunity in these last days to proclaim the life and love of Jesus Christ and to win as many as possible and to proclaim that Jesus Christ is soon coming... very soon!

Revelation 3:7-14 " 7 And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth; 8 I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name. 9 Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee. 10 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth. 11 Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown. 12 Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, [which is] new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and [I will write upon him] my new name. 13 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches. "

2. At this point, lets have an altar call... I invite you to pray and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you if the spirit of this world has corrupted you. Remember,

2 Chronicles 7:14 " If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. "

James 4:10 " Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up. "

In this altar call, if you are reading this and reazlize that you really don’t know Jesus Christ... and the evil of this perilous generation has contaminated you... then I invite you to that cleansing that comes from having Jesus Christ come into your life. He will clean you and fill you with love and hope and joy! Call upon the name of the Lord!

3. If you belong to Jesus Christ, and you have compromised... it is time to become the generation of the God’s chosen people that will reap this 11th hour Harvest before the coming of our Saviour.

4. To each of these abominations that have become prevalent in America... I exhort you to instead:

• Humble yourselves... God will exalt you in due season...
• Come to become a source of life, and not death... to stand for the life and hope of Jesus Christ
• Come to empty yourself out of your worldly attitudes and let Him fill you back up with His glory!
• Develop the mind of Christ and not a worldly mind set
• Shoes of the preparation of the Gospel of Peace... walk in the Word instead of sin.
• Become an intercessor... Stand in the gap for others... come to become someone who cares and edifies... not accuses
• Become a peacemaker... become someone who heals instead of causes division... becoming a speaker of faith and love and hope instead of an accuser and a talebearer and a complainer.
